Woulda - Shoulda - Coulda - 3 Big Plays Define Lightning Loss

Big players make big plays in big games... Thats exactly what happenned in Friday nights game against the Rocky Mountain Lobos

PLAY 1 - Tipped Ball Turns into Big Gainer

With the Lobos leading 6-0 and facing a third down, the Lightning's Nate Pickens breaks up a pass intended Michael Liss. The ball squirts in the air and is picked up by Lobo TE Dawit Assefa who rambles down inside the 10 yard line to set up a FG.

PLAY 2 - Near Sack / Pick Turns into First Down

On the Lobos next possession they were backed up deep in their own territorry when Nick Kasa hit Lobo QB Bryan Peters forcing a bad pass that just hung in the air. As Lightning corner Cameron Brown is coming down with his 3rd interception of the year, all-world WR Jake Stewart comes back and not only breaks up the interception but is given the ball on a "joint catch" call.

PLAY 3 - Fumbled Snap on 10yd line Turns into TD

Quarterback Bryan Peters pulls off the "Play of the Year" for the Lobo's. As the 3rd qtr comes to an end the Lightning closed the score to 17-10 and have the Lobo's on the ropes as Peters fumbles shotgun snap inside his own 10 yd line. As Nick Kasa and the Lightning D rush in, not only does Peters avoid the sack deep in his own end, he breaks multiple tackles and sprints 90 plus yards for a 79 yd TD to put the game out of reach.
Sometimes you simply have to take your hats off to your competitors. Rocky Mountain played Friday nights game with spirit and emotion. Their students, crowd, and band were all into the game, loud and an assett to their team, and their BIG PLAYERS made BIG PLAYS.
Hopefully we will see them again in the playoffs...
